Sampling and payment information

To perform a genetic test, we need a blood or buccal cell sample from your pet.

Please read the following instructions before sampling in order to ensure the successful gene testing. Fill also thetest order forms linked beside the relevant tests. Write your dog's or cat's registration name and registration number on the blood tube or the buccal swab package.

Blood sample

A blood sample should be taken by a veterinarian or person that has a licence to take blood samples. The blood sample should be shipped to us along with the filled test order form.

About 0,5-3 ml of blood should be taken into a tube containing EDTA. Please refer to your vet. Invert the tube several times in order to mix the EDTA wiht blood preventing any clotting. If possible, do not store the sample for days before sending, except in cases where sample has been taken before weekend. In that event, keep the sample in the refridgerator until shipping (preferable shipping days are Mondays and Tuesdays). Do not freeze the samples. Wrap the blood tube carefully in soft tissues or paper for mailing.

Buccal swab sample

If you prefer a buccal sample you need to order cheek swab kits from our customer service. In the email, please inform us how many animals you want to test. You will get the sample kit with proper instructions by mail.

How to take a buccal cell DNA sample?

While collecting the sample, mouth should be kept as clean as possible to avoid contamination of bacteria or other foreign DNA, for example, from other dogs or cats in the same household.

The buccal sample should be taken as follows:

1. Place the buccal swab between the dog’s or cat's buccal surface and the gingiva and brush the buccal surface firmly for about 15 seconds. You need to put some pressure to make sure the cheek cells will stick into the swabs.

2. Air dry the swab at least 15 minutes. This is important, wet swabs may get contaminated.

3. Place the swab back to its package and close it with sticky tape.

4. Write the animal's name and register number on the cover of the package.

5. Ship the samples immediately to Genoscoper laboratory by express mail. If not possible, samples can be stored in a fridge for a few days.
